# Privacy and public-office data notice **Controller:** DoubleTick Solutions Ltd **Registered office:** 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ **Contact:** [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]?subject=politicians.compare%20privacy%20request) **Effective:** 10 September 2026 This notice covers politicians.compare, its static data downloads, correction correspondence and the public-office records used to produce its factual comparisons. ## What the website collects from readers The application has no reader account, advertising technology, behavioural profile or application cookie. Search, filters, downloads and correction-packet preparation run in the browser. The correction tool sends nothing automatically. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate readership and page performance. Its lightweight browser beacon records page views, page paths without query strings, referrers, broad device/browser and country groupings, and web-performance timings. Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not collect or use visitors' personal data, use cookies or local storage, or fingerprint individuals. We do not use these measurements for advertising, political-interest profiling or decisions about individual readers. Cloudflare also delivers and protects the website and may process routine request and security information such as IP address, user agent, requested URL and time under its service settings. If a reader emails us, the message, contact details and supplied evidence are processed to answer and audit the request. Links to Parliament, Congress and other external sources are governed by those services' notices. ## Public-office information Depending on the edition and comparison, the published snapshot can contain a politician's name, official identifier, office, constituency or state, party, public role context, official parliamentary or congressional activity, published expenses or financial-record links, cohort eligibility, natural-unit counts, ranks where a declared league passes its release tests, and source links. The data come from the official and authoritative sources named in the [source catalogue](/sources) and [United States source catalogue](/us/sources). CivicLedger does not use reader behaviour to infer political opinions and does not infer a politician's private life, health, character, ideology, competence or voting suitability. ## Purpose and legal basis The purpose is public-interest journalism and research: making official democratic records easier to inspect, compare, reproduce and correct. The publisher's Article 6 assessment is legitimate interests in accurate public accountability, balanced against the rights of the people described. We also rely on legitimate interests to understand aggregate use, find slow or broken pages, and improve how readers navigate the publication. Cookie-free, non-profiled measurement is used because it meets that need with less impact on readers. Where party affiliation or another category of sensitive personal data is involved, the publisher applies the conditions and safeguards relevant to information made public in an official political role and to journalistic publication under the Data Protection Act 2018. Data are limited to what the declared comparison and its context require. ## Retention - A current snapshot remains available while it is editorially relevant. - Dated source and calculation snapshots are retained for up to seven years to substantiate published claims, corrections and legal accountability. - Correction and rights correspondence is reviewed after closure and normally deleted after 24 months, unless a continuing dispute, legal duty or documented legal hold requires longer. - Incident working copies and exported security logs are deleted within 90 days after an investigation closes, unless a documented legal or security reason requires longer. - Cloudflare retains unsampled Web Analytics beacon data for seven days and makes aggregated reports available for the previous six months. We do not keep a separate reader-level analytics archive. The published method separates a missing value from a recorded zero and gives shorter-exposure office-holders an unranked state. When relevance, accuracy or necessity changes, a record can be corrected, superseded, held or withdrawn. ## Sharing and international processing Public pages and downloads are available worldwide. Cloudflare provides delivery, security and aggregate Web Analytics; GitHub provides the private source repository and scheduled build service. Email and source publishers process data under their own terms. We do not sell personal data. ## Rights and complaints You may ask for access, correction, restriction, objection or erasure, as applicable. Editorial and journalistic exemptions can affect the outcome, but each request receives a case-specific assessment and reasons. Send the profile URL, official identifier and requested remedy to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]?subject=politicians.compare%20privacy%20request). You can complain to the [Information Commissioner's Office](https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/). Accuracy challenges can also use the [corrections policy](/legal/corrections). ## Changes to this notice The effective date changes when the purposes, data flows, providers or retention rules materially change. Prior published versions remain attributable to their dated release.
Each figure describes a specific published record. Roles, opportunities and work outside Parliament or Congress also matter.
